OVER 18? Yes
CURRENT CHARACTER: NA
CHARACTER
NAME: Marc Spector (and Steven Grant, and eventually Jake Lockley)
CANON: MCU
CANON POINT: From the end of the series
AGE: 36
SPECIES: Human
INFORMATION: MCU wiki. CW for child abuse. The character is made up of three distinct alters, people developed to protect the self during childhood trauma. Marc and Steven are aware of each other and work closely together. Jake is aware of Marc and Steven, and they are vaguely aware there must be a third, but they do not know who he is or anything about him. Jake will come up much less in play than the other two, until we find a good plot for him to reveal himself.
CHARACTER PITCH:
Marc is the (former?) avatar of the Egyptian moon god Khonshu, who has his heart in the right place but who tends to work against his own self-interest and has trouble dealing with his past.
Steven is also the (former?) avatar of Khonshu, though he is the one who hates fighting and prefers to talk things out. He's got a lot of holes in his memory, thanks to Marc's childhood trauma, and he's still coming to terms with being a part of a whole.
Jake is an enigma. All we know is he is still tied to Khonshu, and he's the one who handles the most difficult fights. Also, he prefers to speak Spanish.
POWERS:
Jake is still technically the avatar of Khonshu, which means he (and the other two, though they don't know it) can summon a magical suit of armor that protects them in battle, gives them superior strength, allows them to glide (when wearing a suit version with a cape), and heals them from most wounds. Marc and Steven are unaware they still have this power, and Jake will try very hard to keep it from them. Given Khonshu can't actually reach them in this new universe, the healing power and flight power are going to be a little less impressive-- no coming back from the dead anymore without shard help-- and of course Jake et al won't be able to speak to Khonshu directly anymore. (Too bad, so sad.)
QUESTIONNAIRE
What is the worst or most malicious thing your character has ever done? How do they feel about it now? Was this sort of action typical of them?
Marc sent Layla divorce papers before disappearing out of her life for several months. It was meant to hurt her, so they could make a clean break, so he could hand his life over to Steven and keep Layla herself safe from Khonshu. He regrets it, he feels terrible for hurting her, but he's not sure he'd have made any other choice in the moment. That specifically is not typical behavior, actively trying to hurt someone, but the tendency to drive people away for their own safety and presumed happiness, as a means of protecting them and punishing himself, is very typical.
The most malicious thing Steven has ever done is scream at Marc for taking the body and not giving it back, and occasionally thinking dark thoughts about killing his awful boss. Neither are particularly common for him, and he does regret yelling Marc into a melt-down because now he understands the situation better and, you know, isn't terrified of Marc anymore.
What is the most altruistic or selfless thing your character has ever done? How do they feel about it now? Was this sort of action typical of them?
Marc turned his back on paradise to save Steven from the hell of unbalanced souls. He knows it was the right thing to do, and doesn't regret it in the slightest. This is actually very typical of Marc: he will always put someone else's happiness before his own. Always.
Steven gave Marc absolution for his worst "crime" of leading his little brother unwittingly to his death, an event that shaped both their lives. He was upset at Marc already for having "made him up", for telling him their mother died, for finally sharing that they were abused by their mother, and he could have been cruel. He chose otherwise. This is also typical of Steven, who is a generally kind and understanding person.
What do they desire above all else? How far would they go to accomplish their goals or fulfill those desires? Do they have lines they wouldn't cross?
Marc's greatest desire is for safety. He wants to not be afraid anymore. He wants to not have to carefully police himself and watch everyone around him just to function. He won't go very far for that goal, though, because he still doesn't value himself enough to believe he deserves to be safe, let alone happy.
Steven's greatest desire is to project that safety onto others: he wants to save the world. He'll do whatever it takes, to the point of killing innocent people. He doesn't like killing, period, and even when he learns to fight, he does so with blunt weapons that don't outright kill people. Stealing and maybe scaring people a little is okay, but he'd rather just talk it all out if possible, though.
GAME DETAILS
LEGACY: Martyr. Every decision Marc makes in the show, he puts other people ahead of himself, to an unhealthy degree. He even puts the other part of himself, his alter Steven, ahead of himself. He will give everything he has to save the world, to save Steven, to save Layla, and not count the cost to himself as even a cost. Steven isn't quite so unhealthy about it, but he, too, tends to put others first.
INTRODUCTORY SECT: Pleroma. While Marc personally has self-destructive tendencies, he is consciously working on these, and he has Steven, who is heartily loving and curious. Most of all, though, he would never be convinced to end a whole universe in order to bring forth a new one. That was the whole plot of his series.
SUITABILITY:
The most honest answer to this is this is one of the only games I can find that seems fun and interesting, but which doesn't already have a Marc, Steven, or both, and hasn't hit the MCU cast cap. I do like the setting a lot, as high fantasy and exploring new powers are my jam, and I prefer my games to have plot to them to give me something to focus on beyond SoL. I fully expect Marc to occasionally be tempted towards Kenoma by his self-destructive tendencies, but hopefully overcome it through the support of CR, the development of more healthy coping mechanisms, and his own determination to protect the innocent. I want to see how Jake finally shows himself to the other two, and is developed into more of his own person, as he only had one scene fronting in the show.
